The Shadow Crisis is a series of events that occurred in Anvar's recent history.

Story[]

The Shadow Crisis began with the attack on Middeland by Shadows. Aer Soroval and her brother, Reiko, were the only apparent survivors and were separated in the attack. This attack coincided with the coming war between the Solaran Guard and the Lunarians. Acolyte Michael, sent to aid the military, was later separated from the infantry along with Aeson Agnar. As Michael followed Aeson, who had chosen to abandon the Guard, Aer found herself accompanied by a pair of mercenaries as she sought to find her missing brother.

While Aer would come to learn that she was not actually the daughter of the archaeologist Leumas Soroval, Michael and Aeson came face to face with the living dead as Captain Tiger Hawke's father kidnapped the Wayward Leutikris who had been in their company. The sorceress Valerie Grimoire, his cohort, explained that they were in search of a spear-shaped key.

Aer, together with Kasumi Kagurazaki, had been captured by the scientist Voltaire whom she had learned was her real father. With help from Voltaire's Ciphers Diaz and Madeiros, the girls escaped and Diaz accompanied them as they traveled to the Wastelands beyond the desert in search of the Tartarus Gate.

Michael learned that Mason Hawke was working with a sect seeking to free Raiden from his prison. He and his friends had to battle the resurrected mad king, Zybil, and his followers in order to prevent the chaos that would ensue upon "the Demon's Resurrection."

While Zybil had planned to use the Emissary Key to free Raiden by magical means, Aer was dealing with Voltaire's own plan to genetically duplicate the specimen he had obtained from Phantom Deep with the help of Leumas Soroval. She and her friends were forced to contend with him and his evil machinations.

The final battles converged and Aer and Michael were introduced by the mysterious Seraph who indoctrinated them as protectors of the world.
